God never intended for us to go through life alone. Throughout the Bible, we see the importance of being in community. If fact, life change happens best in the context of relationships. Sharing life through community is part of our design, but meaningful relationships aren’t always easy to find. That’s why Community Groups exist – to make these life-changing relationships relevant and accessible to you. We call it “Doing Life Together!”
There are three things you should know about Community Groups:
1. They are “Free Market” Community Groups. Our groups are as varied as we are; group leaders use their gifts and passions to create a group that allows others to join with them in serving God. Whatever the age, interest, or location there is a group that is just right for you.
2. Community Groups have three semesters. New groups start and stop three times a year – spring (12 weeks), summer (6 weeks), and fall (12 weeks) semesters. Each semester is kicked off with an online registration and a new Community Group directory.
3. You can lead a Community Group. We believe that everyone has areas of strength and gifting that could benefit others. The first step in becoming a Community Group leader is to attend the Group Leader Training. These classes are offered throughout the year to give you an overview of what it takes to start a group. You’ll discover that it’s easier than you think
You’ve probably seen Community Groups meeting and not even realized it. A Community Group looks like friends at lunch, teams playing basketball, or people studying a book or topic of interest. At its core, a Community Group is a small gathering of people, and it is less about what you do and more about who you do it with. By participating in Community Groups, you can expect to connect with others through a common activity, engage in life giving conversation, and request prayer.
Community Groups meet in places like homes, parks, restaurants, coffee shops, and office buildings. The leader of the group selects a meeting spot that best fits the purpose of the group.]
Most Community Groups meet for a semester. This way, new people can join groups easily and regularly. Also, the semester format allows you to try multiple groups each year. As relationships form, some groups choose to stay together for consecutive semesters, but new members are always welcome.
Since our Community Groups are for adults only, we understand that childcare for parents might be an obstacle for participation, so we have decided to reimburse parents for childcare costs incurred as a result of participating in a Community Group. We want to remove any obstacles that can keep you from participating in group life. The childcare reimbursement form is linked here.
The truth is, not everyone will find the best fit with the first group they try. This is why we encourage you to select a few groups that interest you, contact the leaders, and try out a couple different groups before choosing the best one for you. The simple strategy to finding success in Community Groups is to not give up. We believe there is a group that is right for everyone – including you!
Anytime! Just show up to the meeting place or contact the group leader to share your interest.
Community Groups are at the core of who we are as a church. As our church grows larger in our weekend worship services, we must also grow smaller at the same time through our Community Groups.
